Image Metadata Viewer (EXIF Reader)

Find out what information is stored inside your photo. Inspect camera details, dates and common EXIF fields locally. GPS coordinates stay hidden until you choose to reveal them.

Inspect the metadata in your imageJPG, PNG or WebP · 25 MB maximum · Files stay in your browser

Metadata is read directly from the selected file in your browser. No image or GPS data is uploaded to ImgPocket.

How to check photo metadata

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image from your device.
  2. Review the detected image properties, EXIF camera details and timestamps.
  3. If GPS metadata is present, choose whether to reveal the coordinates.
  4. Export the detected information as JSON, or use the linked metadata remover before sharing the photo.

What is EXIF metadata?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is a way cameras and phones store additional information inside image files. It may contain camera make and model, date and time, exposure settings, focal length and GPS location. Other metadata standards include XMP, IPTC and PNG text chunks.

Why check a photo's GPS information?

Some original photos contain coordinates that can disclose where they were taken. This is particularly relevant before sharing pictures taken at home, school or other private locations. GPS data is not present in every image; messaging platforms and photo editors may remove it.

What does this viewer support?

ImgPocket reads common EXIF TIFF directories in JPEG, PNG and WebP files, including selected camera, exposure, timestamp and GPS fields. It also identifies certain XMP, IPTC, comment and colour-profile markers. It does not fully decode every metadata standard, proprietary camera tag or embedded XMP/IPTC record. An empty result is not proof that an image has no metadata.

Is the image uploaded?

No. Files are read locally in your browser, and GPS coordinates are not sent to any map service. Be aware that exported JSON can include coordinates when present; treat the export as potentially sensitive.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see where a photo was taken?

When supported EXIF GPS fields are present, you can reveal latitude and longitude. A missing GPS result does not establish where a photo was taken.

Can I remove the metadata after viewing it?

Yes. Use ImgPocket's single-image metadata remover or batch remover to create re-encoded copies and check common metadata structures.

Does the viewer change my photo?

No. It reads information from the original file without modifying it.
